10 things we do to help new students settle into school (Part 2)
Here are the next five things we do to help new students settle into school:
- We build a relationship with the child. We learn the child’s interests, personality, communication style and needs so that we can respond appropriately.
- We encourage independence without rushing. We show children where things are and how to use them, then give them opportunities to try.
- We connect children with their classmates. Working alongside others helps children become part of the classroom community.
- We work with parents. Parents know their children best, and communication between home and school makes the transition easier.
- We give each child time. Not every child settles in on the same day.
Before a child can fully engage in learning, they need to feel that this is a safe place for them. Visit our school today to see how.
